tinder experiences
I recently dove back into the deep end of the dating pool (free Tinder gold is great, I highly recommend leaching off of finance bros in the future). I'm at 640 likes & 32 matches (rn), so it's wild. The numbers keep going up. I don't know where this rollercoaster ends but it's been a hilarious ride so far. I'm evil. My ego knows no bounds now. Someone needs to get me off this app.
But at this point in my life, it's fun to document the things I've been up to, even if no one else sees this stuff. I'm not putting this on my other blog, because my ex has access to that and I'd rather he... not be privy to the kinds of things I'm up to now in the dating world. We haven't even gotten back to normal, friendly small talk like before we were together, so I'm definitely not going to be sharing my new dating stories with him. Maybe one day we can laugh at the stuff I get myself into like before, but not now.
Anyways! Below is a little recap of the people I've talked with a bit on Tinder, first impressions and first date plans. So far, a much more pleasant experience than the Tinder dudes from America. 100/10, if I have to be on Tinder at least it's in Europe.
2023/12/03 - 705 likes, 32 matches (I haven't really swiped much since the last update)
2023/12/04 - 723 likes, 38 matches (I decided to swipe on a few more)
2023/12/06 - 758 likes, 39 matches (I turned my profile off in the discover feed, this was getting ridiculous and I was getting overwhelmed by how many people I was now talking with)
- Runner dude: So.. he seemed promising. But I didn't translate his Norwegian correctly, and misinterpreted it as "looking for a rebound DATE" instead of a.. rebound sleeping. So that burned out fast, but it was interesting because it was actually his friends on the app coordinating the whole thing. We chatted a bit on snapchat, but he disappeared after I made it clear I wasn't looking to sleep with him (he even clarified, "so.. you don't want to sleep with me?") Gross.
- Russian/ukrainian/english dude: No idea, his city of origin was in Russian/Ukrainian (I am not from Europe, I am simply an uninformed American, okay?) but it named a city in England so I'm so confused. But he opened his first message with a hey <3 and a short bit about hockey skating, so I don't know the vibes on this man yet. [Recent match]
- PhD guy: More in tinder info, too lazy to write about him here when I've dedicated a whole post to him
- Guitar guy: Opened with a super like and a "I only got 6 months to convince you to stay" which was a good line, had a guitar in his first photo which... yeah I might be a sucker for guitar guys. I shot back a "between the snow and that guitar, I'm already quite tempted" and he offered to perhaps play for me some day. He didn't know who Noah Kahan was, bummer. [Recent match]
- Pretty eyes & german guy: Talked a fair amount about the city and exams, I complimented him on his eyes which I think really opened up the conversation. He shot me back a compliment about my smile, and I just ignored it. Taking a norwegian course so that's cool. Was able to guess I was on the west coast, but he guessed the wrong state, chatted a bit about learning snowboarding and ice hockey. [Recent match]
- Turf guy: Thursday date with Tinder dude (I know nothing about him & he was very forward in asking for a date & usually I'd say no so I said yes, I'm looking forward to it though, he's also older though so it's a little yikes but it's at the barely not creepy edge so I gave it a chance.)
- Spanish guy: Weekend date with Spanish guy (he's so cute and buff and likes to read, so far favorite experience, but also only person I've met up with so far)
- Fake aussie: someone who opened with "my english is pretty fkn good bc i studied in aussie for 2 years" - almost unmatched, but it could be interesting to meet up. might as well carry this experiment out to the end? [Edit: I ended up unmatching because he gave major f*boy vibes]
- Yoshi guy: a fun conversation regarding my complete ignorance of Yoshi being a mario character (i thought it was a pokemon thing at first, yes i live under a rock), so far i like the vibes.
- Howdy guy: another ee major! he's a fifth year, seems nice. sent a cowboy emoji as his first text and a good morning :)
- Robotics guy: cybernetics major, is kinda nerdy but he said he's a "master cuddler" on his bio
- Ship dude: ship engineer, he had a cool troll photo & he seems nice so far.
- Ginger dude: my gosh his humor really is bad, I'm thinking of unmatching soon, it's too much cringe even for me. I'm not sure I'd mentally survive a meeting with him... plus he's literally 27 so a little yikes on the age. [Edit: Unmatched after he ghosted me for a while]
